Bands provide solace patriotism

05 October 2001

According to CNN report from Atlanta, Georgia, many musicians help to heal the wounds of those families who are victim of the terrorist’s attack in the United States and to restore the calmness by diverting the attention of their fans to music.

Nick Hexum, the singer of 311, stated that: “I think our mission in this band is more valid than ever”.

Since the twin tower attack on 11 September 2001, Hexum and his group start making music with positive message that is viewed by the listeners as comforting words as well as a way to escape from that terrible experience.

The group 311 is one of the 31 bands who participated in Bigger Day Out, which was a two-day rock festival that was sponsored by the Atlanta, Georgia’s local radio station WNNX-FM, on September 21-22. Most of the singers who performed in that day out had to limit their acts for the audiences.

Some performers had unified the crowd by showing patriotism. The Living Color vocalist Corey Glover covered himself with an American flag, which was thrown by a fan at the stage. Lit performed lively with his stirring electric guitar that brought the audience back to their feet. Some rockers performed as they omitted some of the violent lyrics in their songs. Some singers commented about Osama bin Laden, which is suspected to be the mastermind behind the terrorist attacks in the US. Visit botswana student union for other stories.
