Is the latest video of Evanescence got clues to their problem?

05 November 2003

As reported on news, the co-founder, songwriter and guitarist of Evanescence, Ben Moody, has walked out on his band mates in the midst of their tour in Europe. So, fans will surely search for signs, which will lead them to the answer behind all the questions about the group.

The video of the group for ‘My Immortal’ might give some clues. According to the singer Amy Lee, “The video is all about separation”. She added, “I wanted it to depict real human sadness”.

In a natural sense, the video treatment is from director David Mouldy and not from the band. The director wanted to match the song’s lyrics on the acts presented on the video. However, there are some similarities between the present situation of Evanescence and the imagery within the video.

On 10 October 2003, ‘My Immortal’ was shot by Mouldy in a gothic part of Barcelona, Spain, two weeks before Ben Moody left the band. According to the singer, pianist, and songwriter Amy Lee, “The only rules that I set out were that we didn't want any fake stuff or imaginary things that couldn't really happen”. She also said, “We did it in a cool, old area of town”. She added, “We shot some of it at this scenic point, and there was a rooftop where you could see Barcelona below. It was really neat”.

The video of ‘My Immortal’ is very different compared to the video of the band’s album ‘Fallen’. Lee said, “The label was stuck on the demo and wouldn't let us use the version we really wanted”. She added, “We fought back and forth about it and finally we gave in, but we were all so angry about it”.
